Why do I Dance?

Journal entry July 28

Why do I dance? Recently in a class Eva the founder of Core Connexion said: “We dance to make the invisible, visible” This is what happens for me in each class. As humans we are going through “10,000 Sorrows and 10.000 Joys” no one in this life goes through with a mixture of those. I find this practice so beneficial to me because as I dance I can actually be present to what is happening in my body. My soma shows me where the tension, is hanging out. It also shows me where the free and loose parts are. This week in dance I felt fine, and then as I danced to a beat I realized I had tension, fear that was coming out. Where was this all stored?, as I let the moves get bigger and made sound. It was like draining water from a drain, or dropping rocks in a river. The feelings subsided, and I found a place of ease, and eventually loving kindness to myself. I dance to let myself have a perspective that’s bigger than myself. So that I can surrender to the moment, where I access loving awareness. When I dance with others a possibility arises that isn’t there when I am alone. I am inspired by there movements, I can sense the air on my skin as they move around, and more possibilities can happen in a group. As a dancer I use all of my sensations, surroundings, emotions, thoughts, imagination, as my inspiration; like paint. Each sensation provides a new movement, until it moves to the next.

Each time I ask myself this question, there seems to be a new answer. This week It’s to find myself where I am.

Why do you dance? Send me a note and let me know.
